This is God’s grace . . .

HE GIVETH MORE GRACE

by Annie Johnson Flint

1)  He giveth more grace when the burdens grow greater,
He sendeth more strength when the labors increase;
To added afflictions He addeth His mercy,
To multiplied trials, His multiplied peace.

Refrain
His love has no limits, His grace has no measure,
His power no boundary known unto men;
For out of His infinite riches in Jesus
He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again.

2)  When we have exhausted our store of endurance,
When our strength has failed ere the day is half done,
When we reach the end of our hoarded resources
Our Father’s full giving is only begun.

Refrain

3)  Fear not that thy need shall exceed His provision,
Our God ever yearns His resources to share;
Lean hard on the arm everlasting, availing;
The Father both thee and thy load will up bear.

Refrain

  1. I loved reading about this amazing and faithful woman. Reading the hymn then reading her life story and re-reading the hymn…Everything is in perspective.

  2. What a powerful and inspirational biography! We all have a story, but hers was definitely one to glean insight and purpose from. Throughout the reading, I took a few notes, as if reading from your perspective…

    She was “cheerful and optimistic” – that’s you!
    Helpless – you have had to submit and endure so much
    Her story was “born of experiences” – as your blog is

    “You know, Jesus Christ said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive,’ but how can there be any givers to whom the blessing can come unless there are those who’re willing to receive?” – a lesson many of pride need to accept

    “God intended to glorify Himself through her… there came to her with real assurance His promise which said, ‘My grace is sufficient for thee; my strength is made perfect in weakness.” – I love that word “real”; through your experience, you are tasting, feeling, living this real assurance of His promise. I have had a few experiences that pale to yours, that have highlighted this promise, and even though there was trial, the intimacy with the Lord was so precious, so “real”.

    “There were many times, no doubt, when her soul would be burdened with the mystery of it all and the why and wherefore of the thing that she was called to endure. Her faith never faltered.” – Again, you are human, yet you are so strong; such a light for me.

    “We only see half the circle of life. One thing we are sure of, and that is the Divine Power makes no mistakes as He molds the clay in His hands… fit for the Master’s use.” – Your soul writes so beautifully, Les. Thank you for sharing your story with us.

    Love you!

    1. Katie ~ I definitely have not been a shining star during this unsought for ALS journey. There have been, are, and will continue to be frustrations in coping with symptoms, communication snafus involving the medical system, and trying so hard to make myself understood. It is your prayers that are helping to keep me on the front line of this battle. Thank you for your encouragement through it all!

    1. Linda ~ So glad you shared this. Even though I grew up hearing and singing hymns, He Giveth More Grace was not one of them. Discovered it rather recently as I was “playing through” one of my hymnals. It is now one of my favorites!

  3. Indeed, His grace is without limit, and may we be open to receiving it. I shall never forget your playing this on the piano, dear Leslie. Thank you for reminding us that with each trial, He giveth more grace. Gratefully, Genevieve and Adolf
